Genetic Testing
We have partnered with GeneSight, a pharmacogenomic test that analyzes important variations in your genes that may affect how you respond to medications. We all metabolize drugs differently which means we may respond differently to the same medication at the same dose. GeneSight examines how your genetic variations can influence your response to medications. This may tell us which medications are more likely to work, which medications may require dose adjustments or have an increased risk for side effects based on your genetic profile.
We can easily collect a sample during your visit by swabbing the inside of your cheek, or you can have the sample collection kit mailed to your home. Results are generally back within 72 hours. 95% of patients pay $330 or less for the test. If your cost is more than $330, GeneSight promises to call you before processing the test. If you’re looking for GeneSight testing, but not wanting ongoing psychiatric care at Minnesota WellCare, that’s ok. We will schedule you for an initial consult to review your medical history and past medications tried and collect the sample during this visit. We will then schedule you for a follow-up visit generally one week later to review the results.
